Good day fine reader, nice to welcome you here to a new college of Dutch Designers Outlet her Lingerie and swimwear expert. In this blog I will explain to you how to calculate your bra size correctly. Because did you know that many women unknowingly wear the wrong bra size! This can lead to discomforts such as back pain, shoulder pain and even headaches. A well-fitting bra is therefore not only more comfortable, but also supports your body in the right way. This contributes to a better posture and a more beautiful silhouette. Moreover, a well-fitting bra makes your clothes fit better and prevents unnecessary wear of your bras. High time to discover if and how you should calculate your bra size!

How to calculate your bra size?

Finding your perfect bra size starts with measuring your breasts correctly. This may seem complicated, but with a few simple steps you can accurately measure your bra size. Your bra size consists of two parts: the bottom measurement (the circumference under your breasts) and the top measurement (the circumference over the fullest part of your breasts). Together, these measurements form your band and cup size, which you need for a perfect fit.

Steps to calculate your bra size

To make calculating your bra size easy, we work through several steps. Make sure you have a tape measure, pen and paper handy. Wear a bra without padding for the most reliable results, your breasts will have the desired position, position and shape. A mirror can also be helpful to check that you are holding the measuring tape straight. Let's start calculating your bra size with step 1.

Step 1: measuring the underwidth

Start by measuring your underwidth, also known as the band size. Place the measuring tape tightly under your breasts, where the bra strap normally sits. Make sure the tape is tight enough (a bra will always stretch slightly) to get an accurate measurement, but not so tight that it pinches. Note the number of inches of your size; this is the basis for determining the figure of your band size. If you are between sizes, round up for a more comfortable fit. Now that you know your lower width, you can use the table below to determine your band size.

Undersize in cm 63 - 67 68 - 72 73 - 77 78 - 82 83 - 87 88 - 92 93 - 97 98 - 102 103 - 107 108 - 112 113 - 117 118 - 122
Tire size 65 70 75 80 85 90 95 100 105 110 115 120

Step 2: measuring the upper width

Now it's time to measure your upper width, as this determines your cup size. Place the tape measure around the fullest part of your breasts, usually at the level of your nipples. Again, do not pull the measuring tape too tight or too loose and be sure to keep the measuring tape at the correct height. Record the number of inches of your size. It is important to measure both sizes accurately because together they will determine which cup size fits you best.

Step 3: find your chest size in the size chart and determine your correct cup size

Now that you know both sizes, we can calculate the correct cup size. To do this, use the bra size chart below and find the line of your band size. Then find the column that best matches your measured bust size and you'll know the letter of your ideal cup size. It's that simple!

An example might make it even easier. If you determined in step 1 that your band size is 80, and in step 2 your upper width is 97 centimeters, then your cup size is C. The bra size I recommend is 80C. This is also how you will find it in the size chart. It is important to know that this calculation can vary between brands and styles. Therefore, it is always a good idea to try on several bras to find the perfect fit.

What you need to know about push-up bras

Push-up bras are designed to give your breasts more volume and elevator, which has a different effect on your size. The extra padding can make your breasts appear larger. If you wear a push-up bra, pay close attention to the fit and make sure the bra surrounds your breasts well without pinching or bulging. You may need to choose a size larger for a comfortable fit after bra size calculation.

Good to know for when wearing a plunge bra

Because this bra has less fabric in the front, the fit may feel different than a regular bra. So it is important to measure your size properly if you are going to wear a plunge bra, especially if you are used to a different style. Marlies Dekkers has a wonderful selection of plunge bras that are not only stylish, but also offer excellent fit and comfort. With plunge bras, it may be wise to recalculate your bra size. Is the plunge bra new to you? Then learn all about it in my blog"What is a plunge bra?".

From measuring to information and advice

I like to help you from a to z. This from measuring your bra size to offering advice on the maintenance of your favorite bra. This help I offer you so you can enjoy your bra longer. Whether it cost a few euros in our lingerie sale or whether you had to consult your savings account before buying it. A bra should fit well and of course last as long as possible. In the following paragraphs I give some additional information and refer to my other blogs so that you can enjoy your bra for a long time.

Sister size bra: what is it and how to convert your bra size

Did you know that if your bra is not quite right, you can also try a sister size? A sister size bra offers the same cup volume, but has a different band size. This can be useful if you find that the band is too tight or too loose, while the cup fits well. To convert your bra size to a sister size, go up or down one size in the band size, and in the opposite direction with the cup size. Lost the thread already? Then dive into my blog"Sister sizes bra" where I explain it to you in detail. The advantage of a sister size is that it can help you find a perfect fit without having to try a whole new size.

When to replace your bra

Even the best bra doesn't have eternal life. Over time, the elastic materials lose their resilience and the fit begins to deteriorate. It's usually time to replace your bra after six months to a year, depending on how often you wear it. Signs that your bra needs replacing include stretched straps, worn cups, and a bra that simply isn't as comfortable as before. Regularly calculating and checking your bra size is also important, as the shape of your body can also change.

How to wash bras

Washing your bras requires special attention. Washing too often can affect elasticity, while washing too little is not hygienic. Always use a mild detergent and avoid fabric softener, as this can reduce the elasticity of the fabric. It is actually best to wash your bras by hand or in a laundry bag on a gentle wash cycle. For more tips, please refer to my blogs"How to wash bras?" and"How often to wash bras?".

The importance of a laundry bag

Washing your bras in a laundry bag can significantly extend their lifespan. This is because a laundry bag protects the delicate fabric and shape of your bra during washing. This makes them last longer and it prevents underwires from bending or breaking and straps from getting tangled in other garments. Remember to wash your bras on a gentle program and preferably air dry to maintain their fit and elasticity. This way you will enjoy the perfectly fitted bra longer.

Common problems and solutions

Do you suffer from shoulder straps that cut into your skin, or cups that don't fit properly? Then these are signs that you may not be wearing the right size. Also, if your breasts bulge out of the cups, or if there is actually space left over, you may well need a different cup size. For example, problems with the band creeping up often indicate a band size that is too large. Fortunately, these are all problems that are easily solved by calculating your bra size and choosing the right model (also read my blog"Which bra fits me?").

The best brands and styles for every woman

When choosing a bra, it is important to look for brands that are not only stylish, but also offer quality and comfort. With comfort, you have to count on sufficient support and without irritation. In our shop you will find an assortment of top brands such as Marlies Dekkers, After Eden, LingaDore, and Lisca. Marlies Dekkers is famous for her plunge bras in which her fantasy comes to life while combining style and functionality.

After Eden and LingaDore are known for their comfortable and supportive designs, while Lisca combines durable materials with an excellent fit. Whatever style you're looking for, at least start by calculating your bra size first to make sure you're making the right choice.
