Good day fine reader, nice to welcome you here to a new college of Dutch Designers Outlet her Lingerie and Swimwear expert. In this blog we take a look at the balconette bra, a popular choice for women who want to emphasize their cleavage in a subtle way. The balconette bra has half-height cups, this gives your breasts a nice, round shape without too much coverage. The straps are further down the side, making this bra very suitable for clothes with a wide neckline.

What is the advantage of a balconette bra?

A big advantage of the balconette bra is that it gives your breasts a natural elevator without covering too much. This makes it perfect for under tops or dresses with a wider neckline. In addition, the shape ensures that your breasts are nicely accentuated without an excessive push-up effect. This bra is therefore suitable for women with both smaller and larger breasts.

Disadvantages of a balconette bra

Although a balconette bra has wonderful advantages, there are also some disadvantages. Due to the low cut, it actually offers less coverage and support. Especially for women with larger breasts! As a result, your breasts may remain less stable during intense movements. Also, under clothes with a high neckline, the balconette bra can be less flattering. For more support and coverage, you may want to opt for a full cover bra or a sports bra.

The cups of the balconette bra are different from those of the plunge bra

As mentioned earlier, this "half cup bra" is ideal for under clothing with a wide neckline. Think of off-shoulder tops and dresses. Although this bra is not visible under wide necklines due to its half-high cups, it is visible under garments with deep V-necks. The difference is in the shape of the cups. With a deep V-neckline, it is better to choose a plunge bra because it has low V-shaped cups.

When to wear a balconette bra and when not to?

A balconette bra is excellent for everyday wear. For sports or activities with a lot of movement it is better to choose a sports bra. I have written a blog that you can use as a bra style guide, as I explain the differences between bras so you can figure out which bras are best suited for different occasions. Read through"What types of bras are there?" calmly and start experimenting with different styles. Find out which bras best suit your body, occasion and outfits.

What type of breasts is the balconette bra suitable for?

A balconette bra is suitable for almost any type of breasts. Women with smaller breasts benefit from the elevator this bra offers, while women with larger breasts appreciate its natural shape and support. Just know that it is important to make sure the balconette bra fits properly. Especially with larger breasts because otherwise the half cups may offer less support. Read in my blog"Which Bra Fits Me" to find out if this bra fits your type of breasts.

The different shapes of the balconette bra

The balconette bra comes in different shapes, colors and a variety of materials. Think luxury lace to comfortable microfiber. For daily comfort, I prefer a soft cotton balconette bra. I find a lace balconette more suitable for a special occasion. The finish can also vary: seamless models are ideal for under tight clothing. Embellished balconettes add a playful touch to your lingerie collection.

How to choose the right balconette bra size?

As with any bra, it is important to choose the right size for a balconette bra. Because balconette bras have half-height cups, it is important that you look closely at how the cups enclose your breasts. Want help measuring your bra properly? Then read through my blog"The importance of calculating the right bra size" so you can be sure that the bra size you choose will fit properly. Important note: the fit of a bra can vary from brand to brand!

How do you care for your balconette bra?

Like all bras, a balconette bra requires proper care to maintain its shape and quality. Preferably wash your bra by hand or use a laundry bag in the washing machine. Washing your balconette bra with care will make it last longer and maintain its fit. Read my extensive blog"How to wash bra", which is packed with tips and tricks to make your favorite bras last longer!

Balconette bra versus push up bra

The balconette bra is great for creating subtle but natural cleavage. The push up bra gives much more elevator due to the extra padding in the cups. A balconette bra gives light support and a natural shape. The push up bra is more focused on increasing volume and creating a more striking silhouette. Both bras have an underwire for extra support. Whereas the balconette focuses on an elegant look, the push up bra gives a more powerful cleavage. Perfect for those who want to put an extra spotlight on her breasts.

The balconette bra is lingerie with allure

Shakespeare already knew it, no love scene without a balcony. The love for the balconette bra is shared by many women and brands such as Marlies Dekkers and Rosa Faia naturally respond to this very well. These brands but also LingaDore, Lisca and After Eden have made a name for themselves by combining style and class in one bra. Try her on, experience it for yourself!
