No Bra Day is celebrated in different ways. Some women leave their bra at home, while others use social media to spread the word. #NoBraDay is a trending hashtag every year. Women from all over the world share their stories and call attention to breast cancer research. In the Netherlands, No Bra Day is increasingly seen as a way to make a statement. Both to raise breast cancer awareness and to embrace freedom. Many Dutch women choose to use this day to escape the daily obligation of bra-wearing for a while.
Is No Bra Day successful in creating breast cancer awareness?
A 2016 Adformatie survey found that only a small percentage of No Bra Day messages were actually about breast cancer. In addition, the day is sometimes associated with a more sexual message than its original purpose.
